Home Blau Stories The 6 best coves in Mallorca
Volver

One of the main attractions of the island of Mallorca is its natural heritage: its mountains, streams, dry stone paths, picturesque villages, and natural landscapes. But among all these natural attractions, its beautiful white sand beaches undoubtedly stand out. Many of them are located in the south and east of Mallorca, with famous names such as Es Trenc, Ses Covetes, Es Carbó, Es Cargol… and in addition to these beaches, there are numerous hidden coves along the Mallorcan coast, which surprise visitors with their turquoise waters and shallow depths.

Cala Romántica

Also known as S'Estany d'en Mas, this is a beautiful, sheltered family cove approximately 100 meters long by 165 meters wide. The sides of the cove form cliffs that are not too high, covered with pine trees. On the left side runs a recently built promenade. The right side is completely untouched with no buildings.

It is accessed from the MA-4014 road (Porto Cristo to Portocolom), where at kilometer 10.8 there is a left turn that leads to the beach.

Cala Romántica is a Blue Flag beach, offering all kinds of useful services such as sunbed and umbrella rentals, showers, toilets, wooden walkways for wheelchairs and strollers. There are also several restaurants and a lifeguard service. The waves here are moderate, perfect for a calm swim without strong currents.

Cala Mendia

Cala Mendia is slightly smaller than Cala Romántica, just over 10 meters long by 170 meters wide. The shallow depth of the first 50 meters, barely one meter, turns this cove into a paradise of crystal-clear, serene waters, like a natural pool, surrounded by fine white sand. It is also ideal for spending the day with children.

It can be reached via the same road as Cala Romántica, with a small parking area right next to the beach.

It also offers all kinds of services and access for people with disabilities and strollers, as well as lifeguard, sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, toilets, etc. The waves are very gentle, perfect for safe swimming.

Cala Anguila

Cala Anguila is even smaller, 50 meters long and about 120 meters wide, easily accessible, with a small free parking area. It has a similar funnel-like shape to the previous coves and, like its ‘sisters’, offers all services needed for a family day at the beach.

The waters are calm here, ideal for swimming and relaxing without worrying about strong currents.

Cala Galiota

Cala Galiota is an urban beach with sand and rocks, small but very accessible, frequented by residents of Colònia de Sant Jordi due to its proximity to the promenade. Perfect for a quick dip and to enjoy a different side of Mallorca.

It is only 90 meters long and about 20 meters wide, with coarse sand often covered with Posidonia remnants, though there are also rocky areas, so water shoes are recommended. There are no services, but parking is very close.

The cove is accessed via carrer Major de la Colònia de Sant Jordi, just behind number 23. Its waves are gentle and consistent, making it suitable for a relaxed and safe swim.

Sa Bassa des Cabots

Sa Bassa des Cabots, near Cala Galiota, is a cove of sand, stones, and rocks in Colònia de Sant Jordi, 90 meters long and 10 meters wide, semi-circular in shape. It is also known as Rambada de Sa Síquia. It is an ideal place for a quiet swim with children when nearby beaches are crowded, as it is usually not busy. The sand is coarse, often covered with Posidonia.

It is accessed via the Colònia de Sant Jordi promenade and has no facilities, so bring what you need, although the town has almost everything available. The waters are serene, with moderate waves that make swimming easy.

Es Trenc

If what you want is to enjoy a truly special large, virgin beach, your number one option is Es Trenc, famous for its length, the quality of its sand, and its crystal-clear waters. Nudists can also enjoy it freely, as there is a designated area near the Ses Covetes entrance.

The largest beach in Mallorca is 2,640 meters long, with white sand, dunes (protected from human traffic), and pine trees. And the turquoise blue water is the most impressive on the island. Photos do not do justice to this stunning beach.

Es Trenc offers sunbed and umbrella rentals, access for people with disabilities, restaurants, and lifeguard services. The waves are moderate, ideal for long, safe swims, even for less experienced swimmers.

It can be accessed by car from Colònia de Sant Jordi via the Campos road. At kilometer 8.8, follow the marked path past the salt flats to reach a paid parking area. Walking from Colònia is also possible.
